As the September sun pounded down on the streets of Kathmandu, the banks of the Bagmati River glittered with red bangles and saris and the streets saw winding lines of women dancing their way to Pashupati Nath Temple. The ladies of Camp Hope attired in red fineries and in a feisty, celebratory mood, danced and sang celebrating the much loved festival Teej with great gusto and fervour.
The chorus of the clink and soft jingle of red glass bangles and the swish of the scarlet saris brings ---to mind ---those beloved lines of Sarojini Naidu as she marvelled on rainbow tinted bangles in temple fairs - the symbol of Hindu women.
